More stars for Paris hotels
The French hotel rating system is rather obsolete, it has been in use for some 20 years and went to a maximum of 4 stars. This posed a problem for Europeans and other travellers as most other countries has up to 5 and even 6 stars, so was it that French hotels are just generally worse than in other countries?
Well hardly, being the country that almost invented luxury hotels (Ritz hotel back in the late 1900s) it wasn’t exactly right that they were missing so many stars.
So in 2008 a new system was proposed, which was then voted in 2009 and is currently getting implemented.
By 2012 the former hotel star system will be out of use, meanwhile all hotels in Paris and France need to get an inspection done by a private entity against a very long checklist to re-classify the hotel and give it the new stars.
The new classification system is going to look like this and now goes up to 5 stars. But don’t wait until 2012 to come to Paris, there are plenty of great luxury and cheap hotels in Paris that have an excellent value even with their current stars.
