Matisse, pairs and sets – exhibition at the Pompidou Centre

Submitted by on March 27, 2012 – 10:13 amNo Comment

Matisse was a perfectionist and had a tendency to repaint the same subject over and over again, until he was satisfied with it. This unique exhibition at the Pomidou Centre, open for visitors from 7 March to 18 June 2012, some of the artist’s most famous and lesser known works in pairs. It is left up to the visitor to decide which one they like most.

<< Through a selection of masterpieces, the exhibition “Matisse, pairs and sets” illuminates a singular aspect of his art: the exploration of the same subject repeatedly, the same pattern. Pairs or sets, drawing, touch, color, are a regular feature of his work. The exhibition comprises sixty paintings and thirty drawings from 1899 to 1952. >>
