Paris Eiffel Tower News Top Pick: Stephanie Fraser, of Ottawa, Canada!
Stephanie submitted an essay on the Hotel Dieu Hospital, which lies
near Notre Dame Cathedral. Although the subject was treated in a interesting
way, and is definitely out-of-the beaten-path, her written contribution
is not amongst the winners.
However, Stephanie is awarded our Photo Prize for an interesting composition
which she shot inside the Charity Hospital, in one of the inner yards.
The photo is well balanced in light and colors, and shows some of the
architectural particulars of the old building.
Well done, Stephanie!

Third Prize Winner: David Annandale, of Winnipeg, Canada!
David wrote a moving description of the Rue de Furstenberg, one of the
hallmarks of the 6th district, located right behind mythical St Germain
des Prés.
David’s writing is as accurate as personal. He painted this small
oasis of tranquility with a gentle personal touch, and with enough details
that anyone could orient oneself easily to the place.
Well done, David!
Second Prize Winner: Gina Doggett, of Paris, France!
We were struck by Gina’s description of a small, hidden treasure
of Paris, a passage lost-in-time and only known to very few insiders.
Undoubtedly, Gina’s dwelling in Paris gave her ample time to unearth
this gem.
We found Gina’s composition about Galerie Vérot-Dodat well
balanced, both in terms of historical and architectural details. We liked
the way she blended well-known characters with the spirit of the place,
and we definitely found her subject interesting.
Gina, you did a wonderful job of letting other Paris lovers and goers
know a piece of its past and present which very few of us would know.
Thank you.
First Prize Winner: Diane Lawyer, of Lilburn, Georgia!
The Top Pick of our Essay Category would absolutely find its right place
in any well-rounded Paris guide.
Diane’s subject is the Rue Cler, a small street which, incidentally,
also caught the fancy of another one of our Contestants (whose contribution
is brilliant in its own way).
Rue Cler is located in the 7th district, a district known for its lofty
buildings, and the berthing place of a lot of embassies. Contrary to
the neighboring areas, Rue Cler is very peculiar for its “old Paris” feeling.
Diane admirably caught the atmosphere of the place, and described it
with gusto, and delightful accuracy. One of the strong points of her
contribution, we felt, is the location details which she made sure to
give the non-acquainted reader. Anyone with this description in hand
and a rough map of Paris could make it to the area, and experience what
she depicts.
We felt transported there, and definitely wanted to re-visit the place
with a new eye after reading her work!
Thank you, Diane, for this work of art. You are our Top Pick in the
Essay Category.
Again, thank you to all the other Paris Essay Contestants, and be
assured that we will try to publish your essays with a mention of your
names.
We hope to see you again on Paris Eiffel Tower News site, where new contents
is added as we scour Paris for you and other Paris lovers and goers.
